Snake vs. Alligator Lizard:  An epic battle

6/20/2016

6/5/2016 - China Beach, San Rafael, CA -
Jonathan and I stumbled upon what we at first thought was a snake eating a lizard until we looked closer.  To our surprise, what we were witnessing was a stale-mate - both amphibians silent and still until the lizard's hind leg twitched ever so slightly.  This event drew us in closer to see the lizard had the snake's head gripped tightly in its jaws.   On even closer inspection, we realized the lizard had tight hold on the snake's jaws, clamping them together making it impossible for its larger adversary to open its mouth, unable to attack.   Picking up a small twig, Jonathan drew near the adversaries.  Suddenly they split with the snake spinning off to the right disappearing into bushes downward towards the marsh and the lizard skirting left into the brush on the upside of the path.  Then immediately, within what seemed less than second, the lizard ran fast as lightening across the path downward into the brush in pursuit of the snake.  Did the snake attack the lizard's eggs or newly hatched offspring to trigger such a daring offensive move by the lizard?

PRESS RELEASE - 30 April 2016
Done Yesterday Press is pleased to announce that a copy of  Jonathan Meader's Ancient Egyptian Symbols: 50 New Discoveries is available at both the British Museum's Ancient Egypt and Sudan library and archive and also in the Egyptology collection of the University College London Institute of Archaeology Library.  The UCL Egyptology collection is also known as the "Edwards Library" having been established through a bequest of Amelia Edwards, a popular novelist, explorer and patron of Sir Flinders Petrie.

British Museum Library and Archives
The Museum's Egyptian and Sudanese collections, among the most important of their kind in the world, are underpinned by the library of the Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan, which ranks among the top five libraries for Egyptology worldwide.  The departmental library has been in existence since around 1860. Its stock enables research into all aspects of Ancient Egyptian and Sudanese cultures (prehistoric, pharaonic, Hellenistic, Roman and Late Antique Egypt and the contemporary eras in Nubia). The collection comprises 24,000 library items, the oldest of which was published in 1636.

A search of the Ancient Egypt and Sudan Library lists the following papers and publications:
  • On closer inspection : the inspiration for Ancient Egypt's white crown / Jonathan Meader and Barbara Demeter
  • Incense-cones in Ancient Egyptian art / Jonathan Meader and Barbara Demeter
  • Ancient Egyptian symbols : 50 new discoveries / JonathanMeader & Barbara Demeter ; foreword by Hans Schneider
  • In praise of women / edited by Jonathan Meader ; foreword by Isabel Allende
